Safe Cookware - Is Stainless Steel Cookware Safe?

Stainless steel cookware is a great choice for safe cooking. Many kinds of cookware react with the foods, either changing the taste of the food or even releasing harmful materials into the food that can cause imbalances or diseases. Many non-stick coatings like teflon are safe - but once they get scratched or overheated they can start to leak chemicals in the food that are according to some scientific studies dangerous and possibly carcinogenic.

Stainless steel cookware is very safe. Stainless steel is a mix of different metals: iron, chromium and nickel. Iron, as you are probably aware of is not a dangerous metal for the human body - one of the healthy aspects of spinach for example is that it has a lot of iron.
Chromium also is healthy for humans - between 50 to 200 (microgram) mg per day are recommended. Studies have shown that when you cook one meal in a stainless steel pan or pot it releases about 45 mg of chromium into the food - so that's even less than what's recommended daily, a very safe amount of chromium. That means even if you eat four meals a day that are all cooked in stainless steel pots and pans you would still be in the safe range, since 4 times 45 mg equals 180 mg (less than the daily 200 mg that are totally fine).

Cookware Sets

About nickel - nickel really isn't something that you want to put in your body. Fortunately when you cook with stainless steel cookware there is very little nickel leaking into the food - so little that scientists and medical professionals consider it absolutely safe. The only people to whom the nickel might pose a threat are people who have nickel allergies. If you have a nickel allergy I suppose you already talked to your doctor about that. Since stainless steel cookware is used in so many public places (restaurants etc.) I suppose that it still is normally not that big of a threat, but again, check with your doctor.

To some this might all sound a little weird and they might be surprised that when they cook part of the cookware also gets into the food. But this is really normal, it's the world we live in. You drink from a can and some tiny amounts of the can material will get into your drink. You drink from a bottle and some tiny amounts of the plastic get into your drink. When you cook there is heat involved which enforces reactions between different materials. This is nothing bad - remember that we human beings are designed to live in this world and to handle these kinds of things.

When you buy high quality cookware you can be pretty sure that it is safe to use - cause all these big brandname manufacturers have a reputation and they don't want to risk lawsuits. Of course if you buy cheap noname cookware that's a different case - which is one of the reasons why I always choose high quality cookware.

Quality Stainless Steel Cookware is a Real Pleasure to Use and Clean

Some people are afraid to use stainless steel cookware, afraid that the lack of Teflon coating will make food cooked in them stick. I bought my first stainless steel pan set from HSN shopping network, and decided to try them out for myself. These pans are a dream, and clean up beautifully. My experience with these beautiful pans has been nothing but positive, and I've put them through their paces. The 20-piece aluminum pan set I bought is by Wolfgang Puck, a well-known chef, who definitely knows good pans when he sees them. Here are some of the highlights of this lovely set.

My set included a 1-quart saucepan, a 2-quart saucepan, an omelet pan, an 8-quart stock pot, a sautepan, and a large wok. All are heavy, and very well-constructed. Also included were glass lids for all pots and pans, as well as some lovely stainless cooking utensils such as spoons, turners, a fork, tongs, a skimmer and even an adjustable measuring spoon. The elegant mirror finish on all pieces makes all of them worth displaying. My kitchen looks much classier with these pans in use.

Cookware Sets

Most importantly, these pans cook evenly and quickly. I have gas burners, and use the pans on medium heat for best results. I followed the included instructions, which tell the user to first preheat the pan, then add the oil or butter to the hot pan. Then, add whatever you are cooking. It worked like a charm, and nothing has stuck. To clean the pans, while they are still hot, I pour water in them and then take a cloth, to wipe out any leftover mess, or run the hot pan under the faucet, to remove the food. It works wonderfully, and quickly.

Before buying this set, I was a slave to the cheap Teflon-coated pans. But, the coating didn't cook as evenly as I'd liked, and scratched. Plus, there are studies out nowadays about these kinds of coated pans allegedly being bad for health due to chemicals given off while cooking. I have one iron pan that is nice but a whole set of them is way too expensive for my middle-class budget. This set of cookware was reasonably priced and, watching them being used on HSN, I could tell that they were of high quality. In person, they are even more impressive, along with the cooking utensils, which are also heavy and well-made. I'm giving away my cheap, plastic spatulas, spoons and fork to someone else now that this set happily meets all my cooking needs. They show no wear at all with multiple uses, and the food cooked in them didn't burn or singe at all. I couldn't say that with the old coated pans.

If you want a quality set of cookware, Wolfgang Puck's line of stainless steel pots, pans and utensils won't steer you wrong. They are worth every penny paid, and more. A professional cook wouldn't put his name and reputation at stake by endorsing lousy pans. Try them and see how easy they are to use and clean. You won't be disappointed.

Stainless Steel Stock Pot - Is Stainless Steel Really the Best Material For Your Stock Pot?

The school of thought on what a good stock pot should be made of varies widely. Each material has its own positive and negative attributes.

Generally stockpots are made out of aluminum, stainless steel, copper, cast iron, nonstick or a combination. The stainless steel stock pot is the material that is most commonly purchased. There are also a few companies that have created a hard-anodizing form of aluminum. This material is harder than the stainless stock pot and also non-reactive to acid. An even newer material is an infused anodized pot. It is not non-stick, but because of the material used it has the qualities of non-stick and is as versatile as the heavy gage aluminum stock pot.

Cookware Sets

Every metal conducts heat differently so the way you cook is important to finding the right match. You want your soup at the bottom of the pan to be cooking as evenly as the soup at the top. A well made pot is highly conductive meaning the heat is transmitted evenly throughout the pot.

In the end the choice comes down to what you find available, the cost you can afford, and what feels good in your hand for ease of use. A good stock pot will last for many years so its important to choose one that will fit your needs now and in the future.

Along with deciding on the type of material, you will need to look at the handle on the pot. The handle needs to be well constructed because whatever you use the pot for it is going to be heavy and hot when in use on the stove. Lifting a pot of hot liquid and having the handle give out is dangerous so its necessary to make sure heavy screws or rivets are keeping the handle firmly in place. You will also want to see that the handle is easy to grasp either with your bare hands or when using potholders or an oven mitt to lift it up.

Whether you decide on a stainless stock pot or an aluminum pot, or something in between, it's important to do your research and choose a pot that best fits your needs in the kitchen.

Difference Between T304 and T316 Waterless Stainless Steel Cookware

When shopping for waterless cookware, it is important to determine your priorities. What cookware pieces are you most likely to use? What type of steam control mechanism would you like-steam valve or thermo control knob? To be classified as waterless cookware, the cookware must be at least 5 ply (layers), have some type of steam-control valve and have a flat, encapsulated bottom that contains the metal layers enclosed in stainless steel. Waterless cookware is typically sold on the Internet, home parties, or state and county fairs. The cookware sold in department store environments is generally 3-ply. Waterless cookware because of its composition and construction is more expensive than conventional cookware. However, even within the waterless cookware market, there is quite a price range between competitors. Most waterless cookware is T304 surgical stainless steel. T304 cookware has the following advantages including corrosion resistance, temperature resistance, flavor protection, and ease in cleaning. With proper care and maintenance, this cookware will keep its shine and beauty for a lifetime. Recently, a few companies have started to use T316 in their cookware. While there are some distinct differences between the two, the visible eye cannot detect any difference between the two. Further, there is not a distinguishable difference in taste either. What then is the actual difference between the two grades of stainless steel?

Type 304 contains 20% chromium or more and 10% nickel, comed with 0.08% carbon. It is used for chemical processing equipment, for food, dairy and beverage industries, for heat exchangers, and for milder chemicals. In the cookware industry, the 304 steel is most often used in the manufacturing process. T304 has the ability to withstand the corrosive action of various acids found in fruits, meats, milk, and vegetables. Therefore, it is often used for sinks, tabletops, coffee urns, stoves, refrigerators, milk and cream dispensers and steam tables.

Cookware Sets

Type 316 contains 16% to 18% chromium and 11% to 14% nickel. Type 316 also contains 2% molybdenum. The molybdenum is added to help resist corrosion to chlorides (like sea water and de-icing salts.) Type 316 is the main stainless steel used in the marine environment, with the exception of screws, bolts, nuts, and other fasteners where strength and wear resistance are necessary. Then Type 304 is typically used.

Do the differences specified above justify spending over 00 for Saladmaster that now uses 316 stainless steel? Saladmaster offers a great product but many people simply cannot afford such an investment in cookware. When comparing the two grades, the differences are negligible. When exposed to harsh sea salt conditions 24 hours a day for 7 days a week, T316 would last longer under those conditions. If exposed to high concentrations of sodium chloride, T316 is definitely preferable. Therefore, if you are were to put one cup of sodium chloride (table salt) into 4 ounces of water on a daily basis, you would benefit from using the 316 stainless steel over the 304.

If you are considering the purchase of this cookware, two of your primary questions should be: (1) Which cookware set offers the pieces that I would most likely use? (2) What type of steam control valve would I prefer-the steam-control value that has an open/shut lever or the Thermo-control value that has a color-coded dial that visibly shows the cooking temperature.

Waterless cookware is a lifetime investment. While T316 cookware might be the best option for marine use, the majority of cooks can feel comfortable using T304 surgical stainless steel. If you can't afford several thousand dollars for state-of-the-art cookware, don't be dismayed. You can still buy quality waterless cookware at a fraction of that cost.. How to Use the Cameron Cookware Stainless Steel Stove Top Smoker

As winter turns to spring, thoughts of barbecues and outdoor cooking begins to dance in the minds of many. Creating smoked meats and fish are a favorite taste tradition for generations. Smoking is the technique used to slowly heat the desired meat over several hours using smoke generated from wood chips to create a unique flavor that penetrates the meat.

The type of wood used in the smoker defines the taste of the meat being cooked. The most common wood chip flavors used are hickory, mesquite and oak. Some will keep with the standard wood chips for their recipes, while others will actually mix a variety of wood chips to create even more unique flavor combinations.

Cookware Sets

When people think about smokers, most people envision large box like units standing outside in the backyard for hours chugging away on their favorite rack of ribs or roast. But what if you live in an apartment or decide a large smoker is overkill for you but you still want to enjoy the smoked meat meals? For these individuals, the Cameron cookware stainless steel stove top smoker is the best suited to meet their needs.

Learn About the Different Stainless Steel Used For Cookware

Stainless steel was an incredible innovation in the cooking world when it replaced the copper, aluminum and iron materials that were once used to create pots and pans. These traditional materials either made the cookware expensive or just plain heavy. With the usage of stainless steel, pots and pans and bake ware became much more affordable and lighter. By itself, this material is not a great heat conductor and because of this you will find many of these products are lined or laced with copper or aluminum on the bottom to increase heating capabilities.

Tri Ply Cookware
Tri-Ply is one of the most popular and most common forms of cookware today. Basically these products contain two outer layers of stainless steel and the inner layer is aluminum which is the real heat conductor. The highest quality of this type of cookware is known as 18/10. There are 18/0 and 18/8 as well however they are of significant lesser quality than the 18/10. Because of how this type of cookware is constructed it is a bit more expensive than other types but definitely worth the investment. 18/10 will and can last a lifetime.

Cookware Sets

Another type of tri-ply cookware is made with three different materials: stainless steel, aluminum and copper. The difference between the first version of tri-ply and this version is the copper is laminated on the outer bottom of the pots and pans to help induce heat. The aluminum is still in the middle and the stainless steel covering the outer layers to complete the creation. This type of cookware is better for your stove top because of the insulation properties within the copper. Copper is always a great look for any kitchen on a more visual level to be considered as well.

Waterless Cookware
Waterless cookware is yet another type of cookware. This version of cookware uses iron as the inner layer to help induce heat and provide insulation without danger of exposing food to dangerous chemicals.

When it comes time to purchase new pots and pans for your kitchen, always take the time to research the product you are buying. The line itself may be quite popular but understanding what creates these products is just as important as finding a high quality name brand to back them. Waterless cookware is taking control over the cookware industry today with its unique combination of layers. Replace those old, Teflon pots and pans and serve healthier and safer foods for your family today.

All Clad Stainless Steel 9 Piece Cookware Set - Is it Worth the Money?

The All Clad Stainless Steel 9 Piece Cookware Set is by no means a cheap cookware set. At just over 0 it is probably not a 'must have' for someone who does little more than boil water and makes scrambled eggs. However, for anyone who loves to cook, you simply can't go past All Clad.

So what puts All Clad cookware into the top priced range compared to other cookware sets on the market today and is it really worth the money? We set to work to find out the answer.

Cookware Sets

All Clad have been manufacturing cookware since 1960 and are renowned for the quality, precision and care they put into the manufacturing process. Their cookware is solid, durable and built to last. All Clad have enough confidence in this particular cookware set to give it a lifetime warranty, that is how much they believe in their product. Even so, a lifetime warranty alone probably isn't enough to make me want to pay over 0 for a 9 piece cookware set so we delved a little deeper to see what some of the benefits of this set actually are. And after lots of research here is what we came up with:

Superior Cooking Results

There is no doubt that All Clad cookware gives superior cooking results.

Anyone who has ever used poor quality cookware will be well aware that foods have a tendency to burn in some places and be undercooked in others. The reason for this is that the metal used to make the cookware doesn't conduct heat very well. So if you have a big pan sitting over a tiny burner then any foods directly over the burner will cook quickly whilst anything around the edges will probably be undercooked.

With the All Clad stainless steel cookware you don't have this problem. The reason for this is because the pans are constructed with 3 layers of metal - a stainless steel exterior, 18/10 stainless steel cooking surface and there is a core of pure aluminum. It is this core of aluminum that allows the pans to heat quickly and evenly so you don't ever experience hotspots. And another reason the All Clad stainless steel cookware set performs far better than other brands is that the core of aluminum is not only in the base but it also runs up the sides. This is something you just don't get this with most other brands of cookware.

The cookware is able to be used in the oven as well as on the stovetop, saving you time and extra clean up.

Precision and Care

The attention to detail that All Clad applies to their cookware sets really shows. The pots and pans have lids that fit neatly to keep in the steam, handles that are ergonomically designed and long enough that your hands do not go near the hot cooking area and stainless steel surfaces that are polished beautifully. In fact everything about the All Clad Stainless Steel set just states 'quality'.

All Clad Stainless Steel 9 Piece Cookware Set - Is it Worth the Money?

So we believe that 'Yes', The All Clad 9 Piece Stainless Steel Cookware Set is definitely well worth the money if you want quality, superior performance, good looks and a lifetime guarantee. To read the full review click here
